+ve: First couple of sessions seemed a brilliantly simple way of learning vocabulary. -ve: I expected new topics to keep bringing up already learned words so I didn't forget them. They don't seem to. This seems (a) essential and (b) easy to fix. No explanation of rising/falling tones etc. In Cantonese. Just written as numbers as if beginners were expected to know about them. "No grammar" is fine but what about when I want to build a sentence?

A fun interface. But there are problems. As of Feb 2023, the app sometimes and inconsistently teaches MANDARIN Chinese instead of CANTONESE! The app update at around 29 May 2020 was great, but got worse with the 10 June 2020 update. My family (who are fluent) tell me that some pronunciation is also incorrect - some voice actors speaking do not sound native Cantonese. The 'Simply' and 'Nemo' apps are better for Cantonese. The app also freezes, but customer service have been unable to fix it.

I was enjoying using Drops to increase my Cantonese vocabulary. The system is quite good, although I spotted quite a few mistakes in the material even before the latest problems. The latest update, however, has replaced a lot of the words with "formal" Chinese (written Mandarin). Highly annoying! In fact, ultimately, if you can't trust the quality of the material then it's more harm than help.
