About this app

LEARN BY READING & LISTENING
Legentibus is a language learning app and a library carefully curated for anyone interested in the Latin language. The unique combination of Latin texts with synchronized audio gives you an unsurpassed learning experience. Dive into our growing collection, from beginner stories to works by classical authors such as Cicero or Tacitus.

Download books and audiobooks to your device to listen and read offline wherever you are.

EXPLORE BEGINNER STORIES, TEXTBOOKS, LITERATURE
Legentibus contains plenty of materials for learning, studying, or simply enjoying Latin:

· Stories for beginners
· Textbooks and readers such as Familia Romana and Ritchie’s Fabulae Faciles
· Roman myths and history
· Latin literature by authors such as Caesar, Cicero, Sallust, and Erasmus.
· And more

New titles are added continually, and a regularly updated reading plan is also available.

DISCOVER FEATURES THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR LEARNING
All books come not just with Latin audio, but also with additional help. Depending on the book, different features are available, such as:

· English translations or interlinear translations
· Glossaries with English definitions
· Grammatical notes
· Commentaries
· Macrons for all texts
· Dark/light mode

LEARN WITH STORIES: EXCLUSIVE LEGENTIBUS-ORIGINALS
Our illustrated Beginner Stories are written in simple language with a unique vocabulary count of 100 to 200 words with additional features:
· Audio
· Translation
· Commentary
They are all grounded in history or literature– in classical myths, fables, medieval stories, or historical events, e.g.:

· The Knight and the Magician (medieval)
· Phrixus and Helle (classical)
· Orpheus and Eurydice (classical)
· The Strange Death of Milo (classical)
· A Dangerous Journey (classical)
· The Statue and the Treasure (medieval)

That way, you will learn more than the language itself. We go to great lengths to ensure that the vocabulary and syntax is attested in Roman literature.

We believe that stories are key to learning Latin efficiently while simultaneously having a good time – which in turn enhances your learning.

WHO IS THIS LANGUAGE APP FOR?
Legentibus was created for:
· Complete beginners to advanced Latin learners
· Autodidacts and enthusiasts
· Students and researchers
· Latin speakers who want to improve their skills

With an easy-to-use interface, learning is natural and stress-free. In addition, a curated library with a reading plan facilitates long-term success.

We constantly add resources and make improvements.

WHY IS LEGENTIBUS DIFFERENT?
For a long time, people learned Latin by memorizing declension and conjugation tables, lists of words, and analyzing and translating complex sentences without much context. But Latin is a language, not a puzzle.

It is essential to experience Latin as a language: a medium for communicating something, be it philosophy, history, or a simple story. The only way to achieve true reading fluency in Latin is to listen and read as much Latin as possible from the start.

We made this app to help Latin learners achieve their goals, no matter how varied they might be.

You can do all the listening, reading, and understanding you need in one place, in Legentibus.

Would be five but couple of things: 1. It isn't clear how to access the audio only version of books so I can switch off the screen. 2. Would be super nice to have some more Neo Latin titles (but I'm sure this is in the pipeline). 3. Is there a plan to put in a vocab tester? Would be very helpful to have some flashcards in the app for words I keep looking up. Otherwise a game changer for learning this language, wish I had this when I was a student!

This is a superb learning device that allows for a full immersion in Latin texts. One has always the chance to pause the reading, consult the translation/ commentary (both of which come with the app) and then resume reading and/or listening. The more I use it the more I like it. I have been studying Latin for years and now I teach the language. I am not ashamed of saying that, like most Latinists - I guess - I've have always approached Latin as a code to decipher rather than as a proper language. Legentibus is helping me make a much-needed step forward to truly understand, appreciate and immerse myself in this most beautiful language. Thank you, sincerely. PS A similar app, perhaps even on smaller scale, on Ancient Greek language would be most welcome, too! Just saying...

Thank you very much! That's such a pleasure to hear! I think most of us started out learning Latin by deciphering it. Hopefully more and more people will approach Latin is a language and learn to understand the texts in Latin. Ancient Greek is something we've been pondering, but right now our focus is on Latin, to add as many new books as possible.

Edit reivew: My original review complained about the lack of content but I have been using it for a couple of months now and I am really impressed about how often you get new materials. The app is easy to use and there is a lot of grammar content and references to use. It would be great to have more medieval/Christian content (for example the Vulgate Bible, John would be great). Maybe to get more than once voice reading some of the books (it's always the same man) but very good overall.

Salve! Thank you, Miguel! Right now the Beginner Stories (10), and Easy Stories (vol. 1-4) and literary texts have translations; more are coming. The idea is that learners study beginner stories and Familia Romana to build a strong foundation; after this some of the intermediate texts should be comprehensible. New books are added every week.
