Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.
• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.
• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.
• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.
• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.
• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.
• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

I like that it's open source, not answering to anyone. Works mostly fine. Sometimes during a video call i only see a part of the other person's picture, the rest is black screen — to fix that, I press back and then return to the call, without hanging up, without having to disrupt the conversation.

Really impressed with this app, I was searching for skype alternative considering it's losing support this year and frankly I should have switched a long time ago. This app surpasses Skype in many ways and I can support the app whenever I want. I will in the future also because it works very well. No bloated features and no random issues. Great app!

Signal provides a very similar look and feel to WhatsApp but is architected with privacy in mind, rather than big tech data harvesting (Signal stores everything locally so no corporation ever touches your data). It is without question the messaging app we should all be using, and I have encouraged many of my contacts to switch. No business spam on here either. Signal allows a temp userid as well as phone number, meaning user can also connect without sharing phone number, so great for children.

What’s new
★ We added a convenient shortcut to quickly lower your hand after you start speaking during a Signal group call. It's hands down our favorite feature in this release.
